Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Abid Rashid Shah on Saturday has asked people to desist from walking or playing on the frozen Dal Lake.
He said that it is dangerous and life-threatening for people to walk or play on the frozen lake. Taking to social networking site Twitter Shah wrote: “Due to sub zero temps in Srinagar,parts of Dal Lake freeze these days,esp at the banks & interiors. It is DANGEROUS & potentially LIFE THREATENING to walk/play on it. It is requested to take note & desist from any such action. Friends in the media may pl disseminate.”
The minimum temperatures throughout the valley and the Ladakh region remained several notches below the freezing point on Saturday.
Four Jaish militant killed in Pulwama gunfight
SRINAGAR, DEC 29 (PTK): The four militants who were killed in a gunfight in Hanjan Payeen village of Rajpora area of Pulwama have been identified. All of them were affiliated with the Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit. One of the militants killed is a non local.
Police said that the gunfight erupted in Hanjan village of the south Kashmir district after a joint team of government forces including army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF’s 182, 183 Battalions and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a cordon and search operation in the village following credible inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the cordon was being tightened around the suspected house, the hiding militants fired on the government forces triggering a gunfight. Four militants have been killed in the initial exchange of fire, police sources said.
The gunfight broke after the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hanjan Payeen village of Rajpora in Pulwama district. Eleven civilians were injured in clashes with the armed forces near the site of the gunfight. Internet continues to remain suspended in the area.
