Union Ministry of Culture has invited nominations for Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2019. This award is given to individuals and institutions for their outstanding contribution towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods. This award is for amelioration of human sufferings, particularly of the less privileged sections of the society, contributing towards social justice and harmony. The award is open to all persons regardless of nationality, race, creed or sex.
Government of India instituted the Gandhi Peace Prize in 1995 on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi as a tribute to the ideals espoused by him. It is a prestigious award carrying an amount of Rs. 1.00 crore and a citation. The Awardee(s) for every year is (are) selected by an eminent Jury under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
