Kandi Baramulla residents face power blackouts in coronavirus lockdown, PDD in slumber

Srinagar, April 02: Amid coronavirus lockdown, dozens of villages in Kandi Baramulla are facing erratic power supply due to non- seriousness of Power development department (PDD).Residents of Kandi villages that include Chandoosa, Kalantra Payeen, Kalantra Bala, Bandipayeen, Dandmoo told JKNS that they are suffering due to unscheduled power cuts.”Despite paying electricity bills on time, we get electricity for 10 minutes in 3 hours. This is very unfortunate,” said Arif Raja a resident of Kalantra.He said there are nearly 30 villages in Kandi Baramulla are connected with power receiving station Chandoosa and these villages are worst hit.Demanding immediate redressal of their grievances, the residents said that the PDD authorities have ignored their plights over the past one month.They threatened that if the PDD authorities would not provide them electricity as per schedule they would be forced to come on streets.Arif Gul, another resident from Chandoosa said, the students of these villages are worst sufferers as they are unable to focus on studies due to unscheduled power cuts.“We also tried to meet some PDD officials but things ave remained unchanged on the ground,” he said.However, Superintending Engineer (SE) PDD, north Kashmir, Muhammed Amin told JKNS that they are already facing power load after coronavirus lockdown and due to dip in temperature.”The Chandoosa receiving station is facing problem from the past three days. There was some fault in electric wires. We will try to provide power as per schedule,” he said.The SE asked people to use power judiciously and cooperate with the PDD authorities. (JKNS)
