_ A meeting of the Executive Body of Ajit Colony Extn. Welfare Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Harcharan Singh. The members discussed various important issues facing the locality and expressed distress over continuous neglect of their most genuine demands including construction of deep drains, vacating of the encroached JDA land for the proposed JDA colony at Gol Gujral and black topping of the roads and bylanes. The disparity and discrimination which this colony has suffered because of apathetic attitude of those at the helm of affairs is a matter of concern. There is much talk of cleanliness these days but this is too shallow and mostly limited to slogans, photo sessions and publicity and there is no depth in it. Had there been genuine concern for clean Jammu, no colony in the capital city can remain deprived of one of the basic amenities i.e. drainage system for clean and hygienic surroundings even after 70 years of independence. The suffering which the residents have to go through because of pot holes and ditches during the current rainy season can’t be described in words.

It is worthwhile to mention that more than a decade back in the year 2007 during the tenure of Ashok Parmar, then Vice Chairman, JDA had invited applications for allotment of 1150 plots on lease hold basis at EWS colony Gol Gujral vide no JDA/VPlots/CA-20 dated 19/04/2007. Again in 2014 330 more plots were advertised but the scheme meant for economically weaker sections has so far remained confined to papers only as JDA has so far not been able to get the encroached land vacated from the politically backed highly influential encroachers due to half hearted attempts and succumbing to political pressure from the powers that be.

It is really unbearably painful to see that most of the localities adjacent to Ajit Colony were blacktopped and it was ignored by our representative which speaks of partiality and discrimination. Non-vacating of JDA land from encroachers by the authorities exposes tall claims of those who swear by development for all and the most deprived. The plots for the proposed JDA Colony Gol Gujral colony have been allotted but the colony is yet to be developed as per site plan and so far no work has been undertaken due to non-vacation of the encroached land. Many of the allottees of the proposed colony have raised loans to fulfill their dream of owning their house which has been shattered due to inaction of the authorities responsible for getting the encroached land worth several crores vacated. In this Corporation Ward 32 encroachers keep rearing cattle and buffaloes keep roaming in the locality spreading their shit and making the surrounding unhygienic. If the authorities can’t get the encroached land vacated during Governor’s rule when there is least political interference, then there are no chances for JDA Colony Gol Gujral for economically weaker sections to be developed and come into existence.

The members have appealed Hon’ble Governor and advisor to take necessary steps to remove disparity being meted out to our colony and take all the necessary steps to provide deep drains and black topping of the roads in the locality to fulfill the PM dream of clean India.Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Bhushan Lal Koul, president, Harbans Singh, Vice-president, Badri Nath Joshi, treasurer, Amrik Singh, member and Arun Jandial, Secretary.
